OTHER KEY DOCUMENTS IN A BML ESTATE PLAN PACKAGE

Other Key Estate Planning Documents

Estate planning is about more than just deciding what happens to your “stuff” upon your death, a complete plan should include planning for incapacity, making decisions about the care you receive and deciding who will be the person to make those difficult decisions for you if you are unable to act for yourself. It's important to consult with an experienced estate planning attorney in Oklahoma who can guide you through the process and help tailor a plan that meets your specific needs and objectives. Estate planning is a highly individualized matter, and professional advice can ensure that your wishes are legally protected and implemented effectively.

With either a Will or a Trust as the central document of your estate plan, a comprehensive plan should also include these other key documents:

  • Durable Power of AttorneyYour agent may make decisions and exercise powers concerning your assets and act on your behalf in dealing with third parties.
  • Health Care Power of AttorneyYour agent makes medical decisions for you if you are unable to act.
  • Advance Directive for Health Care (Living Will)Your health care proxy will carry out your decisions set forth in the directive concerning end-of-life care, specifically whether you want to receive life-sustaining treatment and/or artificial nutrition and hydration.
  • HIPAA AuthorizationThose you name will be authorized to have access to your medical records and obtain information from medical providers.
  • Pour-over WillFor trust-centered estate plans, a “pour-over” Will names your trust as the beneficiary and ensures that any property not already in your trust will be transferred to your trust after your death.
  • Affidavit of Disposition of RemainsThe individual you name will carry out your wishes concerning burial or cremation. If you have made prearrangements, you can indicate these arrangements in this Affidavit.
